Some Not-So-Good News for Yauch

- "Adam Yauch was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his left partoid (salivary) gland last week. It's early enough that the disease is localized and can be treated immediately. The cancer and the surgery will not affect Yauch's vocal chords. However, the surgery and the weeks of follow-up treatment and recovery have put the band's plans for touring and releasing their album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 on hold.

In a video posted on the band's site, Yauch said, "I just need to take a little time to get this in check, and then we'll release the record and play some shows. It's a pain in the neck (sorry had to say it) because I was really looking forward to playing these shows, but the doctors have made it clear that this is not the kind of thing that can be put aside to deal with later."

EMI released a statement reading: "Our thoughts, love and prayers are with Adam Yauch, his family and the Beastie Boys. The most important thing is to allow Adam to focus on staying healthy. We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery."
